Abstract : The objective of this paper is to present a hand gesture recognition method for real-time volume control using OpenCV and MediaPipe. We created a system which has the web camera in which hand landmarks are recorded and the thumb and index finger distance are used for adjusting the volume of the system. The method consists of capturing images from a camera or another video feed, applying hand detection with MediaPipe, and mapping volume levels using the spatial relationship between fingertips. The proposed system has been successfully tested with different types of hand gestures and controlled the volume quickly and precisely with very low response lag. This paper extends the implementation of the computer interaction by adding the use of a controller Pycaw to control the system volume.
